The Road Home - From Hay through West Wyalong, Grenfell to Cowra and Home

Thursday morning the 22nd of April we woke to a cloudy morning which was okay for travelling. We were leaving Hay to head home with and overnight stay in Cowra. After getting packed and sorted we said our goodbyes to Jan & Ross. We had a great time with them for the last three weeks. So off we went and travelled across the Hay plains. The terrain is so flat and not many trees. In one sense it is very boring but in another sense I love it. I have done a lot of travelling around Walgett and other parts of the outback and this was similar. We were heading home via West Wyalong, Grenfell, Cowra and Bathurst as there were several sections of that trek that I had not been on before. The first town we got to was Goolgowi. It was a tiny town. A few buildings around gave evidence of better days in the past but the general store was closed and there was only a small service station open for shopping. There was also a pub, motel and caravan park. It was a bit sad really.
Next was Rankin Springs. We did not drive around but the pub was operational it appeared. We then moved on to Weethalle. We visited here before in 2019 when we stayed at West Wyalong. We did not know when we would ever go through this town so we made the trip out here to see the silo art. So here are the photos of the silo art which is terrific.
We had lunch at West Wyalong. It is another wonderfully historical town with lots of history preserved.
We then went on to Grenfell. Wow I was so impressed with how these buildings look. They were so well preserved from what we could tell. We just had a quick look but decided that when we got the chance we would come back and spend more time there.
We arrived in Cowra and went straight into the Cowra Showground camping ground. It costs $20 a night with power and water and clean, modern amenities. Very good for an overnighter. We could have gone to a free camp and I have stayed at the excellent Carcoar Dam before but my plan was to take Linda out for dinner in Cowra on our last night. It turned out that we didn’t go out. Not to worry. That allowed me to catch up on my blog anyway which was handy as that was the end of the trip. The next day we headed for home. We got away at 9am and arrived home at 2.30pm. Stopped for lunch in the Blue mountains.
So that heralds the end of our three week trip to Corryong for the MFSRBF and touring along the Murray, returning via Deniliquin and Hay. The trip actually feels like we have been away for longer than three weeks this time. That is certainly not an indication that it was boring. We have all had a great time. There was so many aspects to be enjoyed. The MFSRBF was awesome and my fondest memory of the rest of it was camping on the Murray at Cobram, relaxing by the fire and doing the camp oven cook. I always feel on a bit of a downer when I am heading home, a bit of regret that a trip is over. Yes it is good to be home and great to see our girls but there is that feeling. However, that feeling is a bit tempered by the knowledge that in three to four weeks I get to go on another trip. I always have to have something planned, ie another trip somewhere not in the too far distant future to look forward to. So if you are interested keep a look out for my next blog which won’t be to far away. Yeeehaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
