Jugiong & Road to Corryong

We had a peaceful night and a chilly morning. First doona use this year. It was a beautiful morning and I had a walk around and took a couple of pics. I love horses and I will be getting to see a few on this trip. Went and said g’day to these fellas.
Jugiong is a beautiful little town. There is not a lot to it but what is there is quality. There is the Sir George Hotel, The Long Track Pantry and the Jugiong Cellars and further down the road is the Motel and servo. Apart from a few houses that is it.
The Pantry is very well patronized with many people stopping off to visit. It gets quite busy here during the day. After a relaxed breakfast we went and had a coffee at the Pantry. It was pretty full and would stay that way all day.
We hit the road and on the way out of town stopped at the lookout. This will give you another aspect of this beautiful little town.
Then had a good drive to Tumbarumba where we stopped for lunch. This is another beautiful little town. We have camped here twice before. There is a beaut free camp a few kilometres out of town called Henry Angel Flat. We stayed there a few years ago after a trip to Tumut and got the tip about this place. We stayed here again the night before driving to the 2019 MFSRBF. So I knew about the lovely park right in town and so we pulled over there for lunch. It is an RV Friendly Town and so they provide taps for campers to replenish their water tanks, which I took advantage of. It was a beautiful day and these pics show it all.
After stopping for an hour for lunch we pushed on to Corryong. It is such beautiful country, very hilly and beautiful valleys. Upon arrival at 3pm in Corryong we went straight to Stock Route Road which is the entrance road to the MFSRBF. At the 2019 Festival we got the tip that you can camp on the road and queue for the early entry into the Fesitval rather than doing what we did, which was staying at Tumbarumba and getting up very early, like 5am and driving to Corryong and joining the queue. So that was our plan for this festival. However, the night before we had met Tony at Jugiong who was attending the festival and he said that he thought the Police were clamping down on people camping on the road. He was going to camp about 7km out of Corryong at a free camp and arrive about 5am. So we arrived at Stock Route Road and found that there was plenty of room to get off the road. There were already about 17 vans ahead of us in the queue. Some of these people had been here from about midday.
We took a walk up the road to the head of the queue and chatted to the campers on the way. They allayed our concerns that there was any problem being here for the night. It is a stock route after all. The concerns about getting moved on seem to relate to people who try and camp in town on the suburban streets. We were not trying to do that so no problem.
So we settled in and relaxed. We then met Paul and Liz from the Sunchine Coast in QLD who were in the van in front. They are a great couple and a lot of fun. There was some controlled burning going on so the sunset colours are richer than they would otherwise be.
Ian was in the truck ahead of Paul & Liz and we saw that he was on his own so we called him down to join us which he did. He was a great country guy who lives down at Leongatha, VIC. He is a very experienced horseman who does campdraft which is very cool, especially at his age.
So it was a lot of fun talking to these nice people and we had a good night.
