The Hume Dam & Albury
Tuesday morning, 13th April and we had a peaceful night at Lake Hume. We woke to quite a windy morning and the complexion of the lake had changed a lot. There was mist blowing over the lake as it plummeted out of the hills. After breakfast we took a walk along the Rail Trail for a short distance. This is a walk that has been provided due to a disused train line and the tracks have been taken away. We got a bit of a different view of our camp from there.
We packed up and moved on and stopped off at the Hume Lake Weir on the way. It was an impressive dam wall.
From there you could see our old camp site on the lake, albeit in the distance.
We then moved on to the Albury Showground where we were to stay for the next two nights. This was the first time being hooked up to power and water since leaving home. We came here intentionally for the purpose of doing some washing but we found it a nice place so stayed the two nights.
The girls did some shopping and I caught up on my blog and got some fuel. That saw out Tuesday. Wednesday we drove to the Botanic Gardens on the Murray. It was a nice spot and we had a coffee there.
We needed gas so while we were waiting for the bottles to be filled we went up the Albury East Lookout. From there you could see the Hume Weir.
Then it was back to pick up the gas bottles and onto the beautiful Albury Railway Station. It is one of the longest platforms in existence.
From there we went to the Anzac Memorial Lookout on the West Albury side.
Then went back to camp for lunch. After a quick lunch we took a drive out to Jindera which is 16km from Albury. It has maintained a lot of its history and the museum is awesome.
That completed a good two day stay.
